The following is a chat log from the other day I had with Amenic on Gmail. Society takes all kinds. Horrible shit happens, but generally I only care about the horrible shit in my own country. Other country's should deal with their problems on their own, and I don't understand why its our responsibility to act as the global crutch. Its a shitty world we live in, but I don't dwell on it. Nothing really surprises me anymore either, and much like you Nexius I don't think im desensitized. I just think "wow thats awful, but it doesnt surprise me." The world is an awful, awful place full of endless people with endless desires willing to go to endless means to obtain them. And with a canvas like that, you never know whats gonna get painted. |

I feel more or less the same as both of you, I wouldn't go so far as to say I am desensitized but more along the lines of I am prepared to know the worst this world has to offer. When I hear things like that I just laugh and say "wow how retarded can you be" or something similar to that instead of saying "oh my god how awful blah blah" and get all sensitive about the matter. Perfect example when the Twin Towers went down my mother was crying because of how awful it was to see on the news, I just stood there watching and getting angry that my beautiful hometown was getting destroyed. Though now that I think of it, that does sound insensitive. ACK! |

cooking a baby is fucked. but so is children soldiers. so is murder in general. im surprised that guy didnt hit his limit break and omni-fuck-that-bitch-up. i cant personally relate to either situation but i have read, seen enough on the internet and al jazera to realize that there is some fucking crazies out there... welcome to the era of cell phone videos of hangings. |

no.. your just realistic. like you said.. people are too sheltered and dont want to face facts about the world we live in... Its fucked up, and the sooner people wake up the sooner we can try to fix it. |

I don't believe that his wife is that sheltered necessarily, throwing a baby in a microwave because you are a slut that sleeps around and are worried that if your boyfriend finds out it isn't his he will leave is fucked up. She obviously should have done everyone a favor and figured out how to microwave herself and save the world from someone that thinks doing this is an acceptable way out of a perceived bad situation. This doesn't mean that I do not find the other situations completely wrong, but just because it is one child does not make it any less tragic or appalling nor does it make the person sheltered because they find it so. |

I don't think your fucked up. On a side note my favorite news headline was "Woman charged in baby as weapon case" here is the story on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15197558/ It's a horrible story but the kid survives... I think. |
