The only thing that bothers me is the distinct shift in the philosophy of the company. It has changed from "delay the game until it's awesome and polished and ready for release" into... "lets throw it out there and see how good it really does... because if we're not going to make any money off of this I don't want to waste more money sinking another year of development into it." To me, this is a very distinct transition, and I believe that EA has heavily influenced this change in philosophy. EA is notorious for producing mostly shitty games... they just chuck games at you left and right. The games that happen to do well in the market will get more attention after the fact and maybe they'll make 3-4 new versions of the game and pay it more attention. While that might work in the console market, I don't think MMO's can just be set a-drift in the marketplace like that and be expected to float. The market is composed of a player base with a heavy technical and critical background... and every minute flaw will be highlighted. You've got to make it great from the beginning for it to be a great MMO, and first impressions count for a lot. Now, regardless, I'm going to play the game... but this does concern me. You hit it perfectly. EA decided, "O fuck, WoTLK is est. to be released early November. Better cut some content and get our game out there!" I have faith that mythic would never make such a cut of content unless strongly influenced by EA. |

I'm not sure of this, but I'll throw it out there all the same: changing their official named from EA Mythic back to Mythic Entertainment can't have been a coincidence. It leads me to think they were worried about this sort of thinking... and why they'd be worried about this kind of thinking in the first place. Really though, I have to curb my wild speculation. I've already pre-ordered the game so my hand's committed. Not much else is concrete enough to matter. I'll pass judgment in the game's first 30 days which I've already paid for and see where I stand then. On a similar note though, if this launch is bad I'm probably going to be soured from MMO launches here after. The industry's track record isn't improving much as the MMO genre ages. I'm torn between wishing WAR would release after WotLK so the rabble will stay with Blizzard and worrying that will be detrimental to the game. It might be a shitty business practice but if it were me I'd push the project back (you know they made this decision in the time right before preorders came out) and let follow in WotLK's shadow and place my bets long term on the quality of my game beating out Blizzard's. Chancey, but they'd have decapitated WoW if they got it right. |

If WAR really did flop like AoC LotR etc etc. Although i hope it doesn't. I don't know what I'd do. Keep playing it probably. not going back to fucking WoW Hopefully it owns though |
